Description This one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program in this emerging field relating to Smart Buildings is designed to provide individuals with the skills and knowledge in Building Automation Systems (BAS) and technologies to support sustainable operations of buildings and ongoing building optimization. Individuals possessing previous mechanical, electrical or instrumentation-related experience and education are well-suited for this program. With the heightened awareness of sustainable measures and increased costs associated with energy, Smart Buildings continue to gain increased attention and popularity. Professionals in this field help guide and facilitate the move toward high performance, automated buildings and reduce consumption while maintaining comfort, health and safety. Professionals working in Building Automation Systems are equipped to provide a broad range of operating solutions relating to energy management, efficiency, cost savings, conservation and sustainability. The major areas of focus include optimization of HVAC systems, conservation of energy, leveraging technology to achieve desired goals and the integration of new energy technologies. Students acquire knowledge and skills in areas including overall building systems operations as well as controls and computer applications. Through a combination of case studies, real-world activities and hands-on laboratory work, students gain practical experience with various building automation systems. By performing data analysis, students monitor and adjust energy usage and evaluate system parameters, alarms and activities in the building.

International applicants must provide proof of the subject-specific requirements noted above along with proof of either: (IELTS / TOEFL) IELTS -International English Language Testing Service (Academic) Overall band of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each band; OR TOEFL-Internet-based (iBT)-overall 90, with the minimum in each component: Reading 22; Listening 22; Speaking 22; Writing 24.

Additional Admission Requirements:
    Ontario College Diploma, Ontario College Advanced Diploma or Degree in an electrical, instrumentation or mechanical-related field; OR A minimum of a diploma (in a non-electrical-related field) with 3 years working experience in an electrical or mechanical-related field. These applicants will be assessed individually and will be required to complete an Eligibility Package.
