For admission to a degree program, a student must meet one of the language requirements listed below in addition to the academic requirements: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (minimum score: 230 computer-based, 570 paper-based, 88 Internet-based); International English Language Testing System (IELTS - Academic)(minimum score: 6.5); Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) (minimum score: 80); Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment Test (minimum score: 70, with 60 in writing proficiency); Cambridge English Proficiency (minimum result: C); Pearson Test of Academic English (PTE) (minimum score: 60); Three years of full time senior-level studies in an English-language secondary school or post-secondary institution (official documents required) (evaluated on an individual basis; at the Admissions Committee's discretion); or Laurentian EAP Level 3 exam with a score of 70% or higher.

Suitable candidates for the Master’s in Science Communication and Graduate Diploma must have a minimum of 70% GPA and an Honours B.Sc., B.Eng. or a BA in a relevant discipline such as science, technology and society programs, liberal science, anthropology or other university programs from which they have gained a demonstrated ability to understand scientific knowledge and to analyze scientific issues. Admission will be granted on the basis of a written application. Students must demonstrate their interest in, and understanding of science communication issues as well as their communication ability as evidenced by a statement of interest, and by major essays, honours thesis or comparable report writing. Evidence of communication ability may also be in the form of extra-curricular projects such as science presentations, workshops or seminars to public audiences. As for all graduate level studies at Laurentian University, a GPA average of 70% or more is required for entry into the program. In addition, applicants must demonstrate their interest and commitment to involvement in science communication as well as their communication ability demonstrated by a statement of interest, and by major essays, honours thesis, comparable report writing or extra-curricular projects such as science presentations, workshops or seminars for public audiences.
