Program Information
Faculty: Schulich School of Music
Degree: Doctorate
Field of Study: Musicology and Ethnomusicology
Description Our Musicology Program fosters pluralistic scholarship bridging traditional methodologies with newer critical approaches applied to a wide range of repertoires ranging from Renaissance sacred polyphony to heavy metal. Approaches include the study of the place of music within social, cultural and political spheres, the history of musical syntax and styles, the interpretation and criticism of individual musical works, and historical performance practice. Collaboration with colleagues in other areas of concentration such as music theory, performance and music technology as well as the development of interdisciplinary projects with the Faculty of Arts are important features that augment and enhance the Program.
