Description This diploma program offered by the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences is designed to provide the student with an introduction to theories and practice in Health Psychology and Behavioural Medicine. Courses will cover plausible biological pathways through which psychological / behavioural factors influence physical health. Principles of psychological interventions designed to help patients adjust to illness, prevent worsening / recurrence and promote recovery will be considered. Throughout the program, emphasis will be placed on learning to evaluate current research findings with respect to the major chronic illnesses including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes. The Postgraduate Diploma Program in Health Psychology is a two-semester (8 month) program consisting of four, three unit courses intended to be taken sequentially. Two courses of seven weeks duration are offered in each of the two semesters. Grading is on a pass / fail basis. The program is offered beginning each January (Winter), May (Spring) and September (Fall) trimester.
