Description The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers Master degrees in Environmental Science and Geotechnique for students with a non-engineering science background. Students who have four-year science degrees and who wish to study applied environmental science specialize in the Environmental Science degree in civil engineering. This degree permits the study of applied environmental science in areas such as environmental health, chemistry, microbiology, zoology, or geography. Geotechnical engineers have a specialized knowledge of the properties and behavior of soils and rock. Working as a geotechnical engineer, you might be involved in the design of the foundation for a high-rise office tower, analyze the stability of a slope or fill, or predict the forces acting on the lining of a subway tunnel.
