Description The General Surgery Postgraduate Education Program is a five year General Surgery specific program. The first two years of Surgical Residency are known as Core Surgery. The Core Surgery Program includes Residents from General Surgery, Orthopaedics, and Urology. It consists of a small group of Core Residents, usually seven per year in total, making for a close working relationship.

    The majority of Postgraduate Year 1 Residents enter postgraduate training through the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS). For candidates who do not meet the eligibility requirements for entry through this route, there are several other routes through which interested candidates may apply including repatriation and re-entry programs.
