Description Acadia University offers a 12-month program leading to the degree of Master of Arts (M.A.) in Sociology. The Department of Sociology specializes in development and political economy, gender and aging, work and occupations, methodology, and social theory. Students participate in an eight-month schedule of courses, seminars, and thesis preparation that includes some opportunity to gain teaching experience. The remaining four-months are devoted to the completion of a thesis. The M.A. program includes the successful completion of two and a half required courses, including graduate theory, graduate methodology, and a graduate seminar, as well as the completion of a Master's thesis.

Two reference letters and one official transcript from every post-secondary institution attended are required. Applicants must also provide a writing sample. Minimum of 10 pages. A research essay completed for an upper level undergraduate course is appropriate, but the submitted copy should be free of instructors' marks and comments. For all international applicants, a copy of passport (only page 1 and 2) is also required.
