Description: The Department of Music offers graduate programs in composition and music theory leading to the Master of Music (M. Mus.) degree and in musicology leading to the Master of Arts (MA) degree. Special case programs are available in the Master of Music in performance (piano, collaborative piano, saxophone, trumpet, and voice), or in conducting (choral or instrumental). A special case program is also available leading to a Master of Music in Music Education (M. Mus. Ed.) degree.

The Masters programs in composition, music theory, and musicology require 21 course credits plus a thesis. All areas of concentration also include the successful completion of a comprehensive examination and a foreign language. The normal time for completion is two years, including a one-year residency. Prerequisites:

Applicants of the Performance major require a Bachelor of Music (Honours) or equivalent with cumulative average of 80% in the final 60 credit units of the Bachelor's degree (official transcript required). Applicants of the musicology, composition, music theory, music education or conducting majors, which are available by special case only, should contact the Department of Music for information.
