The Doctor of Medicine (MD) program in St. George’s University School of Medicine was the first of its kind. It remains the leader in student performance, student support service, professorial development, excellent facilities, and most importantly, in the performance of the graduates and the excellent reputation of the program in medicine. The Doctor of Medicine degree program is delivered over four calendar years. During the first two years, which cover the Basic Medical Sciences, students’ study on the True Blue campus in Grenada. During the last two Clinical Years, students move on to study at the University’s Clinical Centres and affiliated hospitals in the United States and/or the United Kingdom. Students are also given the option to enrol in the Keith B. Taylor Global Scholars Program, which offers the first year of the Basic Medical Sciences on the campus of Northumbria University in the United Kingdom.
The first two years of the Doctor of Medicine degree program concentrate on the traditional basic science disciplines. Laboratory experience is an integral part of these first two years, along with small group discussions designed for problem-based learning and early integration of the Basic Medical Sciences into the clinical experience. The St. George’s University approach to clinical education provides students with the opportunity to learn medicine in some of the best and best-known hospitals in the world. Located in the United States and the United Kingdom, some of these hospitals have been designated by the University as Clinical Centres. A Clinical Centre is a hospital or group of hospitals able to provide at least four of the five core rotations, train 80-100 students at all times, and offer sub-internships, primary care, and elective rotations. The Clinical Centres allow students to complete all of their clinical training at one site if they wish.
