Welcome to Lakehead, one of Canada's most dynamic and innovative comprehensive universities. Lakehead provides an incomparable opportunity to study and research in an intimate and personalized environment for over 400 full and part-time graduate students. We have one of the most technologically advanced buildings in North America and have established enviable research and industrial partnerships in the biotechnology, educational, engineering, forestry, health sciences, and social work fields; we are also located in one of Canada's most breath taking locales: the boreal forests surrounding Thunder Bay constitute one of the world's largest outdoor laboratories (and most beautiful wilderness areas).
Lakehead offers 29 graduate programs in both academic and professional disciplines, and we are planning to develop exciting interdisciplinary degrees in the areas of biotechnology, Northern Studies, and applied Health Sciences (Lakehead University is also home to the Western campus of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine). We have filled six of our seven Canada Research Chairs positions in Aging and Health, Industrial Waste Management, Technoculture Studies, Sustainable Water Management and the Boreal Forest, Molecular Food Microbiology, and Aboriginal Education. Our facilities include the Advanced Technology and Academic Centre (which revolutionizes the interface of learning and technology), the Living Legacy Forest, the Paleo-DNA Laboratory, and the robotics laboratory, as well as a state of the art instrumentation lab.
